What's Happening in M-6???
Writer's Workshop: Throughout the months of August and September, we will be writing our first narrative of the year. We will focus on personal narratives, which are story about student. We will learn how to go through the writing process: brainstorming, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing.
Students will learn:
-how to write a story with beginning, middle, and end
-how to include dialogue and internal thinking
-how to begin and story with a strong lead
-how to end their story with a bang!
-how to revise and add to the heart of the story.

Math: Module 1 focuses on place value. Throughout the first module we will build number sense and begin discussing problem solving strategies.
Science:
Social Studies: We begin our social studies adventure by learning about our globe and how to locate California on a map. We discuss how our globe is divided into hemispheres, and how to use lines of latitude and longitude to locate places on a globe. We will learn how to use an atlas to look up useful maps for research.
Reader's Worshop: During our launch unit for reading workshop, I will be leading with the book Shiloh. Oh, how the students already love this book. Throughout the months of August and September, we will use Shiloh to practice reading strategies and build a purpose for the important reading work we will do this year. Students will learn how to choose just right books, how to retell, and question what they are reading.
